CIC Fast-tracking Immigration Applications from Victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Phillipines

A new immigration measure released on November 14, 2013, will see that existing applications from Filipinos “significantly affected” by typhoon Haiyan will be given special consideration. The Canadian Embassy in Manila which remains open and fully functional, will aid in the process by providing full visa, immigration and passport services. The Embassy will also be expediting applications from Canadians who have lost their travel documents in the unfortunate event.

 

CIC has also announced that Filipino citizens in Canada who have submitted requests to extend their temporary stay will be assessed in a “compassionate and flexible manner.”

Overseas applicants who wish to declare their cases a priority should contact the visa office in Manila directly: manila-im-enquiry@international.gc.ca

In-land applicants and their family members who wish to declare their cases a priority should contact: situation-philippines@cic.gc.ca or contact CIC’s Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100.

Online applicants are asked to send a follow up email to situation-philippines@cic.gc.ca requesting urgent processing.

Applicants submitting requests are asked to include as much information in their emails as possible. Relevant details that will help speed up the procedure include: your name, date of birth, and client ID (or UCI #) which can be found on any letters or emails from CIC.

This is not the first time the Canadian government has introduced fast-tracked immigration procedures in response to a natural disaster abroad. In 2010, following the disastrous earthquake that hit Haiti, CIC announced new rules to help speed up immigration applications from Haitians significantly impacted by the earthquake.
